The GP Birla Scholarship is an initiative by the GP Birla Educational Foundation, designed to support meritorious students from West Bengal who have excelled academically performance and need require financial assistance to pursue higher education in recognized institutions across India.

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible:

Academic Requirements: Students who have passed the Class XII examination in 2024, with a minimum of 85% marks from WBCHSE or 90% marks from ISC/CBSE.

Income Criteria: The applicant's family income should not exceed ₹3,00,000 per year. However, for exceptionally meritorious students, this criterion may be relaxed at the discretion of the Trustees.

Course of Study: : Scholarships are available for undergraduate and professional across diverse fields including Science, Arts, Commerce, Engineering, MBBS, Medicine, Law, Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretaryship, Cost Accountancy.

The scholarship provides financial support for: Tuition Fees for the course. Hostel Fees (if applicable). The total all-inclusive scholarship amount is subject to a ceiling of ₹50,000 per student per year. A one-time amount of ₹7,000 for the purchase of books in the first year.

The GP Birla Scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis and is renewable each year, provided the student maintains satisfactory academic performance. It can be extended for up to four years, covering the full duration of the course.

The following documents are typically required for the application:

  • Proof of academic performance (Class XII Marksheet).
  • Proof of family income (Income certificate or other valid documents).
  • Admission confirmation letter from the recognized institution (if available) at the time of application.
  • A recent passport-sized photograph.
  • Any other documents as requested by the Foundation.

The scholarship applications are reviewed by an Expert Panel, which currently includes esteemed professionals such as Prof. Sumanta Basu from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata and Dr. Rajib Das from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. The panel shortlists candidates, and conducts interviews and makes the final selection. The decision of the Expert Panel is final.

The interview process will be conducted after the initial review and final results will be published on the website.

The scholarship is primarily intended to cover tuition and hostel fees, along with a onetime book allowance of ₹7,000. Other educational expenses, such as lab fees or extracurricular activities, are not covered under the scholarship. However, additional support may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Trustees.

In cases where the student demonstrates extraordinary academic achievement, the Foundation may relax the income criteria. These cases will be reviewed on an individual basis by the Trustees.

The scholarship amount will be disbursed directly to student via an account payee cheque or bank transfer to the student’s account, covering tuition and hostel fees. The one-time book allowance of ₹7,000 will be provided directly to the student in the first year. The student is required to visit office to receive the scholarship amount.
